Mental health in the workplace is increasingly recognized as a vital component of employee well-being and productivity. As the stigma around mental health issues diminishes, organizations are beginning to understand the impact of poor mental health on employee performance, absenteeism, and turnover (Cooper & Dewe, 2008). Stress, anxiety, and depression are common in high-pressure work environments and can result in decreased productivity and higher healthcare costs.

One of the primary ways to address mental health in the workplace is by fostering a supportive environment that encourages open discussions about mental well-being. Employers can introduce mental health programs, such as Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), to provide support and resources to those struggling with mental health issues (Joyce et al., 2016). Additionally, promoting work-life balance through flexible working hours and remote work options can alleviate stress and improve overall job satisfaction.

A case study of Unilever illustrates the positive impact of mental health initiatives in the workplace. The company’s “Wellbeing Framework” prioritizes both mental and physical health, offering employees access to counseling services, stress management workshops, and mental health first aid training. This holistic approach has resulted in improved employee engagement and reduced absenteeism rates (Kivimäki et al., 2019).
